Brightly coloured plastic chairs, a laminated folder menu, tightly packed tables with plastic table cloths, a concrete pavement and the best crêpes and galettes in Nice. Le Trimaran in Vieux Nice – the city’s historic centre – is not to be missed. Don’t be fooled by appearances; Le Trimaran is always buzzing for a reason. The thin and crisp buckwheat galettes have decadent and hearty fillings to warm you on a winter’s day, as well as light and fresh ones for the summer. And at just €9.90 for a 2-course savoury + sweet menu, there’s no reason to pass on dessert.
Wines are limited to a house red, white or rosé, but unlike in the UK where the house wine is rarely a pleasure to drink, the selection at Le Trimaran was enjoyable. A fresh, zesty rosé and fruity, full-bodied red.
The Nissarda galette is filled with chunky ratatouille in a sweet-savoury tomato sauce, with punchy Emmental cheese, while the Reblochonne is the ultimate in comfort food: a velvety cream sauce studded with salty bacon piece and laced with the distinctive flavour of blue cheese.
Finish your meal with a simple lemon and sugar crêpe, or indulge in a Poire Belle Hélène: soft pears with smooth chocolate and sweet Chantilly cream, or the house-made chocolate sauce with sliced banana.
