Great for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, this quaint restaurant is tucked away down a side street just a short walk from the main shopping stretch at Rue Jean-Medecin. Don’t miss its famous brunch, served everyday from 8:00am (9am on Sundays). The brunch spread with satisfy both your sweet and savoury tooth and is a treat for both the eyes and the stomach. The elderly gentleman who runs the restaurant serves his customers masterfully, with speed yet attentiveness, charming all of his diners. The food is delivered to each table with precision; first the sweets, followed by the savoury and finished with a little pot of fruit salad to cleanse the palette.
La Femme du Boulanger not only bakes its own fantastic selection of breads – from a classic baguette and pain aux céreales (a wholemeal loaf containing various grains), to a richly flavoured seeded rye – it also creates its own spectacular jams. These jams are not your ordinary strawberry and apricot; my selection included strawberry-lemon, raspberry-vanilla, orange-apricot, and pineapple-apple (my favourite – an absolute winner), as well as a big pot of sticky blossom honey and a jar of homemade dulce de leche. Mound the sweet nectars onto your bread, not forgetting a good spread of salted farm butter, and spoon into the pot of organic natural yoghurt – delicious! But beware not to fill up too quickly on bread and jam, as there is plenty more to come.
Eggs come scrambled, fried or as an omelette, accompanied by crisp bacon, a selection of charcuterie and cheeses, smoked salmon and salad leaves.
This is a feast that will keep you full until dinner!
