Ditch sugary breakfast cereals and opt for homemade. This granola recipe couldn’t be easier and is packed with healthy fats and tasty spices.
3 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/2 cup maple syrup
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 cut whole almonds
1/2 cup whole hazelnuts
1/3 cup pumpkin seeds
1/3 cup sunflower seeds
1 tbsp chia seeds
pinch of salt
- Preheat oven to 180*c
- Combine all dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl and mix well.
- Combine oil and syrup and pour over dry ingredients
- Stir until dry ingredients are well coats (add a little more oats if the mix is too wet)
- Spread onto a large making tray lined with baking paper and bake in the oven for around 20 minutes, until golden and crisp
*Serving suggestions: over Greek yoghurt (or coconut yoghurt for a dairy free option) topped with fresh berries; simply with milk, either dairy or almond; sprinkle over ice cream for an easy dessert.
** You could also add dried fruit – try 1/2-1 cup of your choice of raisins, currants and dried cranberries, or for a tropical twist, try dried pineapple, dried papaya, banana chips and coconut flakes.
