Ditch sugary breakfast cereals and opt for homemade. This granola recipe couldn’t be easier and is packed with healthy fats and tasty spices.

3 cups rolled oats

1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil

1/2 cup maple syrup

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1 tsp ground ginger

1/2 tsp ground nutmeg

1/2 cut whole almonds

1/2 cup whole hazelnuts

1/3 cup pumpkin seeds

1/3 cup sunflower seeds

1 tbsp chia seeds

pinch of salt

  • Preheat oven to 180*c
  • Combine all dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl and mix well.
  • Combine oil and syrup and pour over dry ingredients
  • Stir until dry ingredients are well coats (add a little more oats if the mix is too wet)

Granola mix

  • Spread onto a large making tray lined with baking paper and bake in the oven for around 20 minutes, until golden and crisp

*Serving suggestions: over Greek yoghurt (or coconut yoghurt for a dairy free option) topped with fresh berries; simply with milk, either dairy or almond; sprinkle over ice cream for an easy dessert.

** You could also add dried fruit – try 1/2-1 cup of your choice of raisins, currants and dried cranberries, or for a tropical twist, try dried pineapple, dried papaya, banana chips and coconut flakes.
